Pedal in the Park 2024
To promote cycling to youngsters in the Skipton area, SCC will be running junior coaching sessions with a Qualified British Cycling Coach for 3 skill sets as follows:
5-11 Years old “New Starters / Beginners” session (17.00-17.45hrs)
7-13 Year old “Intermediates” session (17.45-18.30hrs)
9-15 Years old “Advanced” session (18.30-19.30hrs)
New Starters: Must be able to scoot a bike without stabilisers.
Coaching working to provide the skills to Children who are just transitioning from scooting to pedalling, taught in the safe ‘soft fall surface’ of the courts at Aireville park.
Beginners: Must be able to ride a bike without stabilisers on grass for 15 mins + and be able to stop
Coaching working on controlled braking, riding with others, getting on and off, restarting without a push, pushing and running the bike, simple obstacles (limbo, low beam + curb), cornering and different positions on the bike (standing etc), slow speed control and games, Up to 1 handed riding. Coaching working on controlled braking, riding with others, getting on and off, restarting without a push, pushing and running the bike, simple obstacles (limbo, low beam + curb), cornering and different positions on the bike (standing etc), slow speed control and games, up to 1 handed riding.
Intermediates: Can do 50% of the skills above, must include braking and restarts.
Coaching working on confident braking, contact with others (group riding), advanced remounts + dismounts, challenging obstacles and cornering in bunches, pump track, manual movements on the bike to perform basic wheel lifts, 1 handed/hands off, scooting the bike. Also games and fun racing.
Advanced: Can do 50% of Inters work/has ridden in groups previously.
Coaching working on advanced braking, contact with other riders and leaning into others, front and rear wheel lifts up to bunny hops, trackstands, wheelies, competition skills, no handed riding, stairs, pump track, steep descents and climbs, advanced starts. Also challenging games and mini races.
