The Ride London Club Challenge is running again this year. Entries open on the 27th February (although they don’t mention when they close!). Event is on Sunday 30th July 2017. You’ll need to be available on Saturday the 29th to sign-on.
It’s slightly different this year. We are NOT guaranteed a team entry. Full details (what there is) are on the Ride London site.
Teams are either mixed (2 men, 2 women) or just 4 men or 4 women. Last year we had 2 teams in, but we struggled to fill both teams, 1 team reaching the start incomplete. This year I think it best we just put forward 1 team, but we’ll see what the interest is.
Entry is £69. You’ll get an email about paying if/when the entry is accepted. You MUST be an SCC member and a British Cycling member to enter. Preference will be given to those who did not get a place on the team entry last year. Register via the button below by 27th February (yes, you’ve only got a few days).

Skipton Cycling Club now has a coaching partner, Smart Performance Coaching based in Steeton and run by local racer Chris Sherriffs.
What Chris and SMART Performance Coaching are about!
Chris has been in the sport of cycling for numerous years, both competing and coaching all over the UK and abroad. He has a keen eye for detail and is easily approachable, which makes him the ideal coach to come to and trust as he has that personal experience of setbacks, time constraints, overcoming illness barriers and many other factors which speaks volumes! He is looking to help every cyclist out there, from novice to elite by making every single training aid accessible to them via his fitness lab at a competitive price. He has thought of everything a cyclist would need in order to improve their performance, such as structured individual training programmes, nutritional supplements and guidance, strength and conditioning, altitude training, power profiling, lactate testing and much much more!
Below is a list of items/products in which members of the Skipton Cycling Club will be entitled to a 10% discount from the fitness lab, which is based on Russell Street, Keighley.

SCC are proud to once again be hosting the first round of the Yorkshire Cyclocross Association Winter Series. The event will be in Aireville Park on Sunday 4th September and will include races for all ages and abilities.
The event was a huge success last year, due in no small part to the support from SCC, turning out in great numbers on the Saturday and Sunday to help with the event set up. We’d like to match that this year and need a show of hands for volunteers for the following jobs:
- Saturday 3rd September: Course setup in Aireville Park
- Sunday 4th September: Sign-on, Marshalling, Course take-down
As always, many hand will make light work. If you can spare any time either day, it would be greatly appreciated and add to the reputation we gained for last year’s event. Register to help by clicking the button below. Any questions drop Stephen Hannigan an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Another year, another Ride London. It was by all accounts a great event last year. We had a team last year, so should get one this year (although they are not guaranteeing that this year). I’ve put in a request for 1 men’s team and 1 mixed team, the men’s team is 4 men, the mixed team is 2 men and 2 women.
To give everyone a chance who may be interested, if you want to be part of the SCC team entry please email email@example.com by the 21st March. Specify if you are happy to be part of the men’s or the mixed team, or if you’re not bothered either way.
Preference will be given to those who were not part of the team entry last year. We will find out if we got our team entries on the 21st March. If we have more riders than spaces, we’ll pick names out of a hat. First ones drawn will get the entries, the rest will go onto a waiting list in the order drawn.
The event costs £58, and payment will be due by the 8th April. You must be an Skipton Cycling Club member and a British Cycling member to be part of the SCC team entry.
Last year we struggled to actually get a team of 4 together, so there is a very good chance that if you want to ride, you will get to.

The Skipton Cycling Club mud flap is ready to order. The mud flap almost reaches the floor so provides excellent protection for those behind, along with looking great.
Comes with 2 push fit fixings, washers and full fitting instructions. Fixings are are pretty low profile, so shouldn’t rub on your tyre. You’ll need a drill and a 4.5mm drill bit (plus a set of mud guards to fit it to of course). It takes about 30 minutes to fit.
£8.50 posted to your door. Delivery within 4 days. Only 20 available!
Fitting the mud flap
Mine is all nicely fitted, so if you’re riding behind me you’ll no longer be splattered with cow poo. I took some picture in the process which might be useful when you’re fitting yours.
Back in November 2015 a survey went out of SCC club members to see what they thought about the club. There was also a paper version available at the AGM. The survey was completely anonymous and asked 10 simple questions about the club with the opportunity to comment.
It’s taken me a while to compile the results (including manually entering the 30+ paper surveys), but it’s now complete and the results are up for all to see.
See the Survey Results
We had 72 responses from around 150 members, although only about 100 of those members are actively involved with the club. So a pretty good response rate of just under 50%. I’m not going to do an analysis of the responses, I’ll let you draw your own conclusions, but all in all I think we did pretty well in 2015.
Thanks to all who took the time to complete the survey.

With the nights drawing in and the weather getting colder and wetter, we’ll be moving the Wednesday training ride to something shorter, more varied, sheltered and sedate. Chain gang will be back in the spring.
There will be 4 routes which we will alternate starting from October. Pace will be 16-17mph, aim will be to keep it together and keep it moving all the way round. If you’re struggling or dropping off the back, please shout up! The routes are:
Espresso (Linton Variant) – Week 1
24 miles, up to Kilnsey, across the bridge to Conistone and back via Grassington and Linton.
Nappa Hetton 30 – Week 2
30 miles, out to Nappa via Gargrave and Bank Newton, up to Hellifield, Flasby and back. Option to cut short if it’s grim by heading straight back to Gargrave from Bell Busk.
Burnsall Loop – Week 3
23 miles, classic Burnsall route via gated road. Short but quiet with one climb coming up to Burnsall. Usually a quick regroup in Burnsall.
Over t’Moss – Week 4
25 miles, short and easy to keep the pace up. Much of the road from Crosshills through Cowling has been resurfaced. Considerable amount of the route has street lighting. Good fun when you get a tail wind through Kelbrook.
The kit order site is live for those who want kit, including a new Milltag pro stretch rain jacket at a very reasonable £66. There will be a stock kit order going in of £1500 also, mostly common sizes (L/XL), but some youth stock in there too. Milltag sizing is pretty spot on (similar to Castelli).
Milltag sizing is pretty spot on (similar to Castelli). I’m 6ft, 76kg and wear a large jersey and shorts which are a snug fit. If you need to exchange unused kit for a different size, we can swap with stock kit (depending on what we have available).
Youth Kit: SCC subsidises youth kit by 50%. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with what kit you need and we’ll get it added to the stock order.
Closing date is 13th September, delivery will take approx 5 weeks. Order direct from the Milltag SCC site, payment by PayPal.
