With Storm Brian threatening to blow a gale, seven chose the shorter route and an earlier finish today rather than suffer the hostile elements of the longer route over Waddington Fell with the SW headwind and rain. So Rick Small set off with an intrepid 4 to tackle the 50 miler. The shorter route was revised at Barnoldswick to keep off the high ground over Brogden Lane opting for the smooth and sheltered tarmac of the lane through Horten to Newsholme where we were joined the 50 milers making their way along the advertised route. Then we amended the route direction again after Paythorne Bridge and Halton West as we didn’t want to turn for home just yet. The rain had kept away and so we went on to Hellifield, Otterburn and Bell Busk where Grahame punctured. A repair was effected speedily on his front tyre and then we made our way to Winterburn and Hetton . The usual “dash”down Grassington road was reduced somewhat by the strenghtening headwind making a refuelling stop at Bean Loved an absolute must. Good to see Alistair out with us and Simon getting in the miles and enjoying his Saturday rides again. The rain came down as we departed Bean Loved making it a wet ride home for those not Skipton based.
