For the 3rd year running the club had organised a weekend away in the summer. We returned to the bunkhouse at Brigsteer this year because we were so impressed with the facilities in 2016 that it was a no-brainer to return. Not only is the accommodation of a high standard but the local pub lays on a minibus to pick us up and return us on Saturday evening. The South Lakes has a lot of routes to offer and the roads are fairly quiet. The weather this year was a considerable improvement on 2016 which was literally a washout. This year we enjoyed sunshine and only a little rain. 3 routes were organised: Cartmel and Grange over Sands, Kirkstone, Shap and Lakeside to Coniston via Grizedale.

The weekend got off to a great start with the Friday evening shared meal. All appetites catered for with generous helpings and choice of sweets too.

Each ride was undertaken at an inclusive social pace and had obligatory cafe stops on the way.

All agreed that it had been a great success and as a feature of club activity will be repeated annually.
